When we have to choose between rugs and carpets, we personally love rugs, since they don't extend from wall-to-wall, it makes them easier to wash, move around or even removed whenever you like to change the look of your home.

So, what is an Area Rug ?

An Area Rug is an accent rug, that does not extend from wall-to-wall. Area rugs are mostly used to compliment your home furniture, as well as highlighting your layout for a more aesthetically pleasing home decor.

Do extend under furniture

A good rule of thumb, the key furniture should preferably be entirely on top of the rug, if not possible, then little edges being off the rug is alright.

Don't be afraid of bright colors

Area rugs are a brilliant way to introduce playfulness and joy into your space, so embrace color and shades while shopping. There are many affordable choices available, so if you decide you don't like it after a couple of years, it's easy to switch.

Do leave equal space

If possible, you must keep an equal amount of floor space on all sides of your rug. Give yourself anywhere from about eight to 24 inches on all sides. 18 inches is the most common space, but in a smaller space, you can get away with as little as eight inches. The key objective is to have the rug centered in the room.

Don't scrimp on size

The most common mistake people make choosing area rugs is getting ones that are too small in size. But don't blame yourself, especially when you factor in the heavy price tags that come with the large rugs. Nevertheless, going large now will spare you from replacing one that doesn't work afterwards. Moreover, the price of a rug is still less than an entire room of carpet.
